GCI Compound - UST GCI-1 Petroleum Site

Background
The site was previously used by the Navy as a gasoline and motor pool facility, but now is a long-distance telecommunications transmitter and receiver facility. Investigations were conducted at the site from 1992 to 1998. Diesel and gasoline were detected in soil and groundwater. Free product was identified on the groundwater surface.
The OU A Record of Decision (ROD) identified free-product recovery as the interim remedy for this site in 2000. Based on periodic monitoring through 2005, free product has not been observed in any monitoring well at the site since October 1997. A Decision Document for final remedial action for the petroleum sites with no unacceptable risk was prepared according to State of Alaska regulations and signed in May 2005. The Decision Document identifies monitored natural attenuation (MNA) and institutional controls (ICs) as the final remedy.
Identified Contaminants
Petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater
Current Actions
